Q: How do we research & check the legitimacy of the caravans, from the UK?
A: We have a UK agent that assists us to locate caravans and we can also provide a UK ‘CRIS’ report (NZD $80) of the caravan’s history and true age.
Its been known that NZ used caravan dealers, have register caravans with misleading and incorrect year of manufacture often making the caravans younger than they actually are.
Q: What saving could I expect to make on a caravan from the UK?
A: Comparing apples with apples, an Ace Jubilee Aristocrat 2007, in NZ can cost around $31,000, compared to the same model from the UK, can cost around $12,000, a saving of $18,000!!
This doesn’t include shipping, insurance and your UK tax refund.
Q: What would I expected to pay for a caravan from the UK?
A: A difficult question to ask and it all depends on make, mode, berth and age, prices start from around:
- $2,000 – 1997
- $10,000 – 2007
- $19,000 – 2012
- $25,000 – 2016
Q: How much will it cost to ship my caravan to NZ?
A: It all depends on which ports your caravan is shipped from and to, expect to pay $4500 – $7000.
Q: Do I qualify for a tax refund, if I export my caravan from the UK?
A: The UK have VAT, the same as GST in NZ, but calculated at 20%. This is one of your major savings which caravan dealers and importers don’t tell you about. When exporting from the UK to NZ and the caravan is bought from a UK VAT registered company, 20% of the value of the caravan is refunded, saving $1000’s!!
Q: Will I need to pay GST on my caravan when it arrives into NZ?
A: In most cases you will need to pay GST (15%) on caravan, insurance and freight costs, known as (CIF). In some cases, there are exceptions when immigrating to NZ, please contact us for further information.
Q: How much do we charge for our service?
A: Our service charge is 5% of the UK caravan retail price and shipping cost, capped at $995, which is paid in two equal payments, one at the start of the agreement and one before the caravan can be cleared, to allow collection from the NZ port.
Q: Will there be other costs involved once my caravan has arrived into NZ?
A: Yes, for a caravan to be legally towed on a NZ road and be granted entry into most campsites, it requires, Registering, WOF, Electrical and Gas Certified and the car towing plug converted to a 7pin flat plug.
The total cost can vary, but expect to pay around $1800.
Q: Do I need to fill out complicated or confusing paper work?
A: Most of the paperwork is filled out for you and emailed over, they will require some standard information, identification and signatures. If there is anything you are unsure about, we can help you every step of the way.
Q: When will I be expected to pay for the caravan and shipping?
A: There is a deposit paid to secure the caravan, then the balance is settled before it is collected, ready for shipping to NZ. The shipping is paid when the caravan arrives in NZ, which will then be cleared and released when all charges are paid in full. This can help to give an extra 10 weeks to get additional finances together.
Q: Is there shipping insurances available for the caravan & secure international payments?
A: Insurance is available to cover damages to the caravan, when in transit to NZ. There are also several secure ways to make international payments to any UK NCC caravan dealer, please contact us for further information.
Q: Is there a warranty with any of the caravans imported to NZ?
A: Sadly, there isn’t, but we research and use the most established UK NCC caravan dealer to reduce the risk of caravan faults.
Q: Can I ship any personal items inside the caravan to NZ?
A: Yes, you can, its classes as ‘Unaccompanied Personal Effects’, so if you also have items you would like shipping to NZ from the UK, take advantage by storing them in your caravan. They will be subject to NZ Customs inspection and possible GST.
Q: Which NZ ports can the caravans shipped to?
A: Caravans can be shipped to Auckland, Napier, Wellington and Christchurch.
Q: How long does it take to ship my caravan from the UK?
A: Generally, it takes around ill I be about to 10 weeks.
Q: Will I be able to tow the caravan away, straight from the port?
A: The caravan needs to be at least registered and have a NZ licence plate, before it can be towed on NZ roads (further details on registration and WOF). This can be done before the caravan arrives into NZ.
Also, the plug that connects to the vehicle needs to be changed from a UK ‘round’ to a NZ ‘flat’ plug, as the outside lighting requirements, for UK caravans are slightly different. So, you don’t have any problems or worries when you collect the caravan, we can provide you with a straight forward plug-in adapter, please contact us for more information.
Q: Can I track my caravan while it is being shipped from the UK to NZ?
A: Most definitely, we provide a Live Vessel Tracking App, that allows you to track your shipped caravan from the UK.
Q: Can I import a caravan myself and can things go wrong?
A: Yes, you can import a caravan yourself, but our service is a small price to pay, for:
